Don't miss, at the beginning of Ballast, the shiny, nailed on numbers that mark the address of the modest-to-ramshackle Mississippi house: 69. It takes a while to realize that it’s a visualization of twins in the womb–what an idea! And it's key to the story, a beginning beyond a beginning. Inventive storytelling leads us through this movie with a sure hand. Watch for shiny things. Directed by Lance Hammer.
Ballast is at Cinema Village and The Brooklyn Heights Cinema.
What a pleasure to read a review that is knowledgeable, intelligent, and thoughful. This reviewer obviously knows her subject—off-Broadway theatre—and offers a real service. Nobody can go to everything that’s playing in New York, most of Off Broadway is not reviewed, so it is a great advantage to have a reviewer who surveys that scene with such expertise. The review of The Good Woman of Setzuan made me feel I had missed a marvelous experience in the theatre. I certainly look forward to reading more reviews by this writer of the perfectly titled “Let’s talk off-Broaday.”
Curious to see the movie now ….
